AIBF Professional Development Application Guidelines — 2008
Specific to:
Current school music educators. Be a resident of Alberta, and participate in either of the Edmonton or Calgary Alberta International Band Festivals.
Amount, Number and Timing of the Scholarship:
The four AIBF Professional Development Scholarships is valued at $500 each (for a total of $2000.00 annually). The four scholarships will be awarded annually at the final awards of the Alberta International Band Festival.
Overview:
It is the intent of the scholarship that the funds be put towards costs incurred by the recipient educator to one of either:
- The International Jazz Educator’s Association Annual Conference (which occurs annually in early January)
- The Chicago Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic (which occurs annually in late December).
Eligibility Criteria:
All applicants MUST meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Alberta, and participate in either of the Edmonton or Calgary Alberta International Band Festivals.
- Be a current grade junior, middle or senior high school band director.
- Provide a resume of background, education and professional development goals.
- Demonstrate a strong desire to improve as an educator.
- Submit a letter of intent, briefly outlining the reasons why you would be a good candidate for this scholarship.
- Please be sure to include school and home mailing information, as well as pertinent email and telephone numbers.
Application and Selection Process:
Each year, prior to the Alberta International Band Festival, application forms and related materials will be made available to band directors and potential candidates via email and on the AIBF website. Applicants will be required to submit their applications so they are received by the assigned deadline each year. The deadline for application was Sunday, February 10, 2008.
Two band directors will be currently working in a Junior High/Middle School and two from Senior High Schools. While financial need will be considered, it is not the only factor in the final decision.
The successful applicant will be selected based on the strength of his/her application by the AIBF Scholarship Selection Committee. The decision of the Committee will be final.
Award Disbursement:
The successful applicant will be notified by telephone and in writing. A certificate of acknowledgement will be presented to the recipient at the awards ceremony for the Alberta International Band Festival in Calgary on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary at 7:30 p.m.
The scholarship monies will be paid directly to the successful applicants upon presentation of receipts from the 2008 Chicago Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic or the 2009 International Jazz Educator’s Association Annual Conference (examples could include registration fee, transportation costs, or hotel costs). In all matters concerning the eligibility and payment, the decision of the AIBF Scholarship Committee shall be final.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2008.
