AIBF Professional Development SCHOLARSHIPs SOUTH
Application Guidelines 2012
SPECIFIC TO:
Current school music educators. Applicants MUST reside in the Province of Alberta.
AMOUNT, NUMBER AND TIMING OF THE SCHOLARSHIPS:
The four AIBF Professional Development Scholarships is valued at $500 each (for a total of $2,000 annually).
- Two scholarships will be awarded annually at the final awards of the Alberta International Band Festival in Edmonton.
- Two scholarships will be awarded annually at the final awards of the Alberta International Band Festival in Calgary.
OVERVIEW:
It is the intent of the scholarship that the funds be put towards costs incurred by the recipient educator to high quality professional development conferences. Examples could include:
- The Alberta Band Association Conference
- The Chicago Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic
Applications will only be accepted from directors whose bands are regularly participating in the Alberta International Band Festival.
We are very grateful to the Alberta International Band Festival Scholarship Fund for their generosity in funding this professional development for four educators for 2012.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
All applicants MUST meet the following criteria:
- Be a resident of Alberta, and participate in either of the Edmonton or Calgary Alberta International Band Festivals.
- Be a current grade junior, middle or senior high school band director.
- Provide a resume of background, education and professional development goals.
- Demonstrate a strong desire to improve as an educator.
- Submit a letter of intent, briefly outlining the reasons why you would be a good candidate for this scholarship.
- Please be sure to include school and home mailing information, as well as pertinent email and telephone numbers.
APPLICATION AND SELECTION PROCESS:
Each year, prior to the Alberta International Band Festival, application forms and related materials will be made available to band directors and potential candidates via email and on the AIBF website. Applicants will be required to submit their applications so they are received by the assigned deadline each year.
Two band directors will be currently working in a Junior High/Middle School and two from Senior High Schools. While financial need will be considered, it is not the only factor in the final decision.
The successful applicant will be selected based on the strength of his/her application by the AIBF Scholarship Selection Committee. The decision of the Committee will be final.
AWARD DISBURSEMENT:
The successful applicants in the southern portion of the Province of Alberta will be notified by telephone and in writing. A certificate of acknowledgement will be presented to the recipients at the Awards Ceremony for the Alberta International Band Festival in Calgary at 7 PM on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary.
The scholarship monies will be paid directly to the successful applicants upon presentation of receipts from the chosen conference (examples could include registration fee, transportation costs or hotel costs). In all matters concerning the eligibility and payment, the decision of the AIBF Scholarship Committee shall be final.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN friday, February 3, 2012.
